Jasminum Sambac is an outdoor evergreen vine or shrub plant.
Jasminum Sambac is an exotic and alluring species of jasmine plant that produces highly fragrant flowers. It is a fast-growing evergreen climbing shrub. Glossy, dark green oval leaves create a beautiful contrast to the highly fragrant, white flowers that fade to pink as they age. These beautiful-smelling blooms appear all summer long and may continue to bloom year-round in warm climates.
Arabian jasmine can be trained as a flowering vine with supports or maintained as a sprawling shrub. It also does very well in containers and makes an eye-catching plant for patios and porches. These abundant plants have numerous traditional uses in medicine, aromatherapy, cosmetics, and culinary uses such as tea, flavoring, syrup, or aromatic water. However, their flowers are the main attraction, so most people prefer them for ornamental purposes. These plants make for a great ornamental houseplant due to their exquisite and fragrant blooming.
It will grow under full sun conditions. However, in our hot zone summers, afternoon shade will help maintain darker green foliage while still providing ample flowers. This Jasmine has average water requirements but will sulk if kept too wet and can succumb to root rot if kept overly wet. The easiest way to determine if it’s time to water them is by sticking your finger in the soil to the depth of your first knuckle, if the soil feels dry and room temperature it is probably time to water.
Jasminum Sambac will need a good quality well-draining somewhat acidic potting soil. Jasminum Sambac requires nutrient-rich soil to grow and flower. A combination of periodic liquid fertilizing and a good quality balanced slow-release fertilizer (like 14-14-14) will help to achieve that.
Care and Growth:
Soil: Jasmine needs well-drained but moist, moderately fertile sandy loamy soil.
Light: Full to partial sun is needed for healthy Arabian jasmine plants. At least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day is ideal. If kept indoors during the winter, be sure to place this plant in a very sunny window.
Water:Jasmine is a plant that demands average watering, but you should be very careful not to overdo it if the soil is already damp. Too much water can damage these plants, causing their stems or roots to rot. During the growing season, in the summer, it’s best to provide your Jasminum plant with plenty of water. When the winter has settled in, you need to reduce watering.
Temperature: As every tropical plant, Jasmine prefers higher temperatures and humid environment. If you want your flower to survive, provide the temperatures from 60 to 75 F (15.5 – 24 C) even during winter.
Fertilizer: Feed a jasmine plant every 2-4 weeks from March-August when the plant is actively growing. Do not feed during the fall and winter when the plant is dormant. Jasmine plants prefer a water soluble plant food high in phosphorous and low in nitrogen.
(Flowering plants only blossom naturally in their respective seasons. Fruit bearing plants only produce fruits naturally during their growing seasons. All plants are sold in generic nursery pots, and may naturally vary in colors/sizes from the exact images illustrated above.)
