Grafted Olive Tree (Olea Europea) [Multi Head]
Botanical Name: Olea Europaea
Also Known as:
- Olive Tree
- Common European Olive
- Lady’s oil
Olea Europaea is Perennial evergreen tree or shrub
The olive tree, Olea Europaea, is instantly recognizable as the quintessential Mediterranean tree and stands as the archetypal sentinel of warm, sunny climes. It is then perhaps surprising that the olive tree is an adaptable and hardy plant suitable for growing in a wide range of climates. In the UK, olive trees perform well in the milder micro-climates which to generalize, are southern and western regions, coastal areas and urban locations.
Care and Growth:
Soil: Olea Europaea trees prefer calcareous soils, flourishing best on limestone slopes and crags and coastal climate conditions. These trees will tolerate most soil types from chalky, clay, loamy or sandy, if the soil is well drained.
Watering: Do not over-water, Olives are fairly drought tolerant plants. There is normally no need to water Olive trees during the winter, only make sure the root ball does not dry out. Protect from excess water during the winter period by covering the pot or plant.
Liquid fertilizer every month from early spring to mid-August will encourage healthy growth and a good crop of fruit. It’s best to feed lightly and often during the growing season. It’s wise to give your tree a feed such as blood, fish and bone meal in early spring and a good mulch with well-rotted manure every other year will keep the tree happy.
Light: Over-wintered indoors, the potted Olea Europaea needs the sunniest position possible, particularly west. Maximizing ventilation and light, assist these trees to preserve their foliage during winter. In the spring, move the plants outside into the sun. They will thrive in a hot, sunny location.
Temperature: During the winter months, plants in frosty areas should be transferred to a cool environment with a nighttime temperature of 9°C (48°F).
(Flowering plants only blossom naturally in their respective seasons. Fruit-bearing plants only produce fruits naturally during their growing seasons. All plants are sold in generic nursery pots, and may naturally vary in colors/sizes from the exact images illustrated above.)
