Botanical Name: Mangifera Indica
Also Known as:
- King of Fruits
- Manga
Mangifera Indica is a perennial tree.
Mangoes are native to Southern Asia, but were carried by monks and explorers to other subtropical regions throughout the world. Mangoes are prized for their fragrant aroma and sweet flavor. They are a versatile fruit, used in desserts, such as sorbets and smoothies, or in savory dishes, such as salsas and sauces. Mangoes are delicious fresh or dried.
Mangifera Indica, fruits are a summertime staple in household around the world.
Young plants can be fertilized lightly once a month. Conventional or organic fertilizer should scattered just beyond the existing roots, so that new roots will reach it.
Established Mango Trees require minimal fertilizing. For trees in our grove, we use mulched tree trimmings and add calcium (pelletized gypsum) once a year. Plants in other conditions sometimes require other minor nutrients.
Pruning is an important part of mango tree maintenance. It is ideal to trim your tree annually.
When first planting you should water every day for a couple of weeks, making sure not to let the root ball dry out, then gradually reduce the watering frequency so that after 6 weeks you are watering every two-three days or so in the summer and every week to two weeks in the winter
Mangoes need rich organic well-draining soil. Mix 50 percent of your native soil and 50 percent of an All-In-One soil mix. Don’t use potting soil as it has too much peat moss.
(Flowering plants only blossom naturally in their respective seasons. Fruit bearing plants only produce fruits naturally during their growing seasons. All plants are sold in generic nursery pots, and may naturally vary in colors/sizes from the exact images illustrated above.)
