Octopus Agave (Agave Vilmoriniana)
Botanical Name: Agave Vilmoriniana
Also Known as:
- Agave Eduardii
- Agave Plant
Agave is a Perennial succulent plant
The agave plant, which originated in Mexico, the Southwest US, and Central & tropical South America, is an easy care, impressive looking succulent plant that makes a great indoor or outdoor plant. It’s a common misconception that agave plants are a type of cactus plant.
Agave plant is a group of succulents with long leaves that naturally forms a rosette shape and produces a flower spire of attractive cup-shaped blooms. They are drought-tolerant and perennial, making them an ideal plant for any beginner gardener.
Care and Growth:
Light: Agave plants prefer a spot with full sun, but they can tolerate a little shade. The hotter the climate is, the more shade they can handle.
Soil: These plants like sandy, rocky, well-drained soil. They have no preference as to pH levels.
Water: The Agave succulent needs minimal water. Make sure that you place the right quantity—don’t over water them! The soil shouldn’t be entirely filled with water, quite the contrary, you just need to make sure the soil is damped and moist.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring & summer when an agave is actively growing with a balanced plant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength. Never fertilize in the fall and winter.
Temperature: Agave plants love it when they are provided with warm settings. Ideally, they need a temperature between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit during spring and summer to thrive. In cooler conditions, especially during fall and winter, maintain the surrounding temperature of your Agave plant between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
(Flowering plants only blossom naturally in their respective seasons. Fruit-bearing plants only produce fruits naturally during their growing seasons. All plants are sold in generic nursery pots, and may naturally vary in colors/sizes from the exact images illustrated above.)
