Also Known As:

- Ficus Bonsai
- Chinese Banyan
- Common Fig
- Banyan Fig
Retusa S-Shape Bonsai (Ficus Ginseng) is an outdoor evergreen tree
The Fig tree (Ficus), especially the small-leaved bonsai species such as the Banyan Fig, are well suited for bonsai styling. The care of the Ficus Panda Bonsai as an indoor bonsai is uncomplicated. It can be described as a good bonsai beginner tree easy to style and fast-growing.
The most popular one for Bonsai is the Ficus Retusa. It’s often shaped with an s-curved trunk and has dark green oval leaves. Similar Ficus varieties include; The Microcarpa, Tiger bark, Willow leaf, Golden Gate, Religiosa, Benjaminia, and Taiwan. The Ficus Ginseng is another popular tree with a thick, pot-bellied trunk, similar to the Ginseng root. Sometimes it is grafted with Ficus microcarpa leaves (combining it to a Ficus microcarpa ginseng).
Care and Growth:
Temperature: Ficus Retusa thrives particularly well indoors when the temperature stays from 60 to 75°F (15 to 25°C).
Light: The Ficus should be positioned outside or near window in a sunny or semi-shaded place. Keep the plant indoor or outdoor with 3 to 5 hours of sunlight.
Soil: The soil should be well drained and fertile rich in organic content.
Water: When watering, always check the top of the soil first. If the top of the soil is wet, do not water as this means they have enough moisture. If the top of the soil feels dry to the touch, this indicates that they need water.
Fertilizer: Feed the plant only in the period of intensive growth from the beginning of the spring to October 1 every 2 or 3 weeks. To do this, it is recommended to use special fertilizers for Ficus or complex fertilizers for ornamental deciduous plants.
