An evergreen perennial succulent plant.

Particularly good at filtering Formalde. Benz. Trichlo. Xyle and Tolue.

Snake Plant is one of the best air purifying plants.

Produces oxygen both in the morning and at night, while absorbing carbon dioxide and other numerous pollutants indoors.

Snake plant is distinct and curious-looking stemless succulent that grows fan-shaped, with stiff leaves growing from a basal rosette.

It forms in time a colony of solid cylindrical leaves. It is slow-growing. The species is interesting, as it has strap-shaped leaves.

It spreads by rhizomes – roots that travel under the soil surface and develop offshoots some distance from the original plant.

Light: This plant prefers bright, filtered light indoors, but it is also highly light-tolerant. Outdoors, Sansevieria grows well in shaded or partially shaded areas. Too much direct sunlight can damage the leaves of the succulent.

Water: The plant can survive long periods of drought. Water it monthly or less in winters; in summers, water it 250ml to 500ml once every 3 weeks  (depending on the size of the plant) *Do not let the water touch the leaves as that can lead to leaves rotting.

Temperature: Temperatures above 55°F (12°C) are best, but it can survive cold spells for a short period of time (50°F/10°C). Generally, they do best in temperatures that are comfortable to humans: above 55°F (12°C) and below 85°F (30°C

Soil: The Fast-draining cactus mix is preferred. If the plant is sitting on overwatered soil, it can rot over time. Add drainage if using regular potting soils.

Fertilizer: Feed the plant during the growing season. Do not feed it during winter.

Transplant only when the plants need dividing because of overcrowding.

The root systems of plants like Sansevieria trifasciata have been known to break large clay pots.

Generally, plants will not require repotting for several years as the Cylindrica Sansevieria does not mind cramped conditions.

Transplanting is done best early on in spring.

Other types of Snake Plants:

  1. Cylindrical Snake Plant – Twisted (Sansevieria Cylindrica / Dracaena Angolensis)
  2. Hydroponic Snake Plant (Sansevieria Trifasciata)
