A needled evergreen, monoecious trees and/or shrubs.
Thuja Orientalis grows as a dense, conical to columnar tree/shrub. Benefited by good air circulation, and tends to open up as it ages. It’s leaves will release a smell after crumbing it. This plant is tolerant of most conditions with the exception of wet areas.
They are evergreen conifers with a pyramidal shape and flat branches that reach 10 meters in height. The foliage is dense and consists of small, medium green, scale-shaped leaves; there are numerous cultivars of other colors. They produce decorative bluish, rounded fruits with small hooks.
Arborvitae is an easily-recognized shrub, with its large teardrop shape and flattened branchlets held vertically. Most young plants are seen as shrubs, but they can be pruned into a small tree by removing the lowest branches. This forms a distinctive vase shape and is common on older landscapes where the plant was located too close to a walk or home.
Platycladus orientalis grows in full sun and semi-shade exposures. They grow in any type of soil but prefer a light, sandy or loamy soil that contains organic matter.
Water frequently so that the substrate always remains moist. They do not resist drought. Water plants regularly in hot and dry weather.
Fertilize in autumn with compost or manure.
They are quite resistant plants to the usual pests and diseases but sensitive to drought.
(Flowering plants only blossom naturally in their respective seasons. Fruit-bearing plants only produce fruits naturally during their growing seasons. All plants are sold in generic nursery pots, and may naturally vary in colors/sizes from the exact images illustrated above.)
