Cereus Peruvianus Cactus (Cereus Peruvianus)
Botanical Name: Cereus Peruvianus
Also Known As:
- Apple Cactus
- Peruvian Torch
- Column Cactus
- Hedge Cactus
- Screw Cactus plant
Plant Type: Cereus Peruvianus Cactus is a perennial Succulent Plant.
Recommendation:
Native to South America, the Cereus Peruvianus (Peruvian Apple Cactus) is a striking plant. It has a blueish-green hue, distinct spiny ribs, and can grow up to incredible, tree-like heights in the wild.
Cereus Peruvianus appreciates a warm, dry environment with minimal water, and plenty of light. This desert beauty will thrive in high light conditions, so placing it in a window where it will receive direct sunlight is ideal — preferably a southern or western facing window, as they are typically the brightest. This plant will not tolerate low light conditions.
If you are unsure about lighting conditions in your home or office, we have a guide for how to measure light in your space.
Light: The Peruvian apple cactus thrives on bright light and sun light, although direct sun when blazing hot is best avoided, when first introduced to direct sun.
Soil: The apple cactus plant grows best in, well-draining sandy soils. The species prefers slightly acidic soils with a pH ranging from 5-7 on the scale.
Water: Water thoroughly every 2-3 weeks. Allow soil to dry out between watering.
Temperature: Temperatures averaging 60°F/°15.5C – 75°F/23.8°C is ideal from spring to fall and a cooler 50°F/10°C – 55°F/13°, after this period.
Fertilizer: Half strength liquid cactus fertilizer about every ten days during the growing season.
(Flowering plants only blossom naturally in their respective seasons. Fruit-bearing plants only produce fruits naturally during their growing seasons. All plants are sold in generic nursery pots, and may naturally vary in colors/sizes from the exact images illustrated above.)
