Golden barrel is a Perennial cactus.

Golden Barrel Cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) is an eye catching feature plant for a drought tolerant garden. Great big yellow spines protect the plant and also protect your garden from unexpected visitors… ouch! And as the name suggests, it does look like a golden barrel.

Care and Growth: 

Soil: Cactus prefer moist soil, and sometimes, rot in wet soil conditions. Cactus need well-drained soil, the above soil mix will maintain the plant in a good condition.

Light: Echinocactus Grusonii need to be given direct sunlight throughout the year in order to produce long and well colored spines.

Temperature: This cactus is happy anywhere between 10-27°C. Avoid cold droughts as these can create unwanted temperature fluctuations which might shock the plant.

Watering: During the warmer months water when the top inch of soil has dried out. During the winter months reduce the watering significantly. Over watering will cause root rot.

Fertilizer: Throughout the growing season, you should feed the plant with a weak liquid cactus fertilizer. During summer, you may feed it with high potassium fertilizer every four weeks.
