San Pedro Tall Single Head Cactus (Echinopsis Pachanoi)
Botanical Name: Echinopsis Pachanoi
Common Name: San Pedro Tall Single Head Cactus
Also Known as:
- San Pedro Cactus
Recommendation:
A columnar cactus that is easy to grow and is also in vogue in the landscape gardening arena is the San Pedro cactus also known as Trichocereus pachanoi, Echinopsis pachanoi, Achuma, or Cactus of the Four Winds. Along with these names, there are about 25 different names like andachuma, huachuma, wachuma, aguacolla, giganton, hahuacollay, to name a few.
San Pedro cactus is a Native of some South American countries like Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Ecuador and is also grown in other parts of the world. This cactus is fast-growing and can grow upto 3m (20 feet) in height.
Light: The growth of these cactus occurs mainly during the brightest months of summer. In places where there are days of intense sun for a few months the cacti will not grow quickly.
Soil: slightly more nutrient-rich soil and well-draining soil than regular cacti soil mix.
Water: Do not water too much. It is still a cactus but has a better tolerance to excess water. In winter we can stop the watering or at most water once a month. In summer we will increase the frequency of irrigation to once a week. Not bad for a cactus.
Temperature: The best thing about San Pedros is that they don’t mind cold weather as long as the temperatures don’t drop below 15°F (-9°C).
Fertilizer: feed use a diluted liquid fertilizer and only fertilize during the growing season.
(Flowering plants only blossom naturally in their respective seasons. Fruit-bearing plants only produce fruits naturally during their growing seasons. All plants are sold in generic nursery pots, and may naturally vary in colors/sizes from the exact images illustrated above.)
